Has anyone read out the actual operating temperature of the engine coolant with the gauge at half way point, where they all seem to sit, using the OBDII with a code reader? My car levels off at about 226 degrees F. Seems a bit high.

I haven't checked the actual temperature in degrees but all the newer cars after 1996 all run in the 200's. They do that so as there is a complete burn of fuel and the cat's run cleaner. If you think it is too high call a Ford dealer and see what their service bulletins call for it to be.........

Sourced a NOS 180F (77C) thermostat from Jaguar Racing Division. Was used on Jaguar British Saloon Racing S-Type cars. Currently researching which aluminum thermostat housing to use.
