My 2002 model just overheated I think. I had driven it about 5 miles and then stopped and was idling in park for 4 or 5 minutes, went down the street again, stopped and the light came on and the gauge was pegged. The outside temp is about 70 degrees. As soon as I put it in gear the temperature gauge instantly dropped back to normal and the whrrring noise I have been hearing off and on for a couple of weeks from under the hood went away. The whrring noise pickups with the engine RPMS and drops off when the RPMS drop.

The top was down and the AC was off. I checked the raditor overflow bottle and it was full. Anybody had this happen to them. Kind of afraid to drive it.

Call service. Back in 2002 there was a recall for over heating on the new Birds. Possibly your car got missed in the recall.
They should be able to look up your VIN to see if it was done.
Do a search on site and you may come up with the TSB #. 🙁
