1966 replacing rear axle wheel bearing

need help figuring this out .... has anyone done this ... 1966 tbird replacing rear axle wheel bearing ... but not sure if i need to remove this " thing " ( dont know what else to call it) i attached pics that show what looks like a jagged " thing/ bearing ??? does it need to be removed too ... one picture shows the old bearing casing ( yes its cut .... the only way to get it off the axle shaft ) inserted part way for reference ..wasnt sure if that " thing " will prevent it from going all the way in ... will that "thing" stop it ??? ( obviously it will prevent it from going all the way in if its not supposed to be there ..... i nicked the axle shaft a bit ( dont see why that will hurt it anyway since bearing slides over it covering it up ... )

That is the outer race of the wheel bearing. Yes it needs to come out.
