i have a 2002 t bird. at 40-45 mph it starts cutting out and skipping. at 50 and above it runs smooth. What is causing this

Sounds like the COPS are cutting out Use the search function to find out more. Did the dash light up an engine or wrench symbol? If so next time it happens get to a dealer. I believe they call that the "Limp mode" which allows you time to slow down and take it in for service.

You may have to replace the COPS and PLUGS, especially if you have high mileage
