Bought the items to bring the 2002 Tbird fully into the new Millennium. 2DIN
Touch Screen DVD/MP3/
Radio Unit with
BlueTooth Hands Free and
backup camera. $150 for
Head Unit, Day/Night IR Color Camera, wireless link from camera to
Head Unit, mounting brackets, and harness kit.
Head Unit uses Tbird
Steering Wheel Controls so it acts as the stock
radio did but with all the modern features.
Better half got hooked on the
Bluetooth Hands-Free (plus it's required by law now in Georgia, can't even handle your phone while driving) and
backup camera on the free Leaf Lease she was driving. She almost smashed the rear end of the Tbird backing up last Thursday and I told her to drop the roof while backing up until I get the
parts installed this weekend.
With iPhone Maps and Waze Apps on our iPhones, who needs Navigation especially when the voice comes through the
BlueTooth to the
car speakers. iPhone mounted so I don't have to touch it, just look at the route. Besides most
Head Unit Navigation Systems are outdate 6 months after you purchase it and doesn't have a live traffic feed like the Maps and Waze Apps do on the iPhone.

When you have the head unit installed, post a picture for us. Good luck with it. What brand?

Will do. Have to give a Hat-tip out to PhilD for his post that saved me a ton of searching. I was looking to bring the Tbird truly into the next Millennium for the past few months because the better half got hooked on the
back-up camera and
BlueTooth in the Nissan Leaf (then almost bashed in the Tbirds truck backing up with the top up). So I started looking for aftermarket stuff like the standalone back-up cameras that replace the rearview mirror with a unit that has a 4 by 3 inch LCD built into them and one of those
BlueTooth add-on things. None of that really appealed to me and some of the
backup camera with mini monitors were up to $150. So I thought maybe somebody else with a Bird has already solved this and I found PhilD's post. Taking the baseline of what he did in his Tbird and the feedback from him doing a second vehicle, I kind of picked what would work best for me from what PhilD was having the most success with. If you buy the more expensive
Head Unit with built-in Navigation, you get the camera for free, but I don't need Navigation as the Tbird is the better half's 4 miles to work daily driver and weekend fun with the top down car. We have two large dogs so the Expedition is the only vehicle that could really use InDash Navigation for trips since the dogs go everywhere we go, but I have a real GPS (private pilot), Panasonic Toughbook, and DeLorme Road Warrior software.
Amazon beat everybody else by a few dollars on each item to a whole $20 on the
Head Unit plus free two day shipping.

And mounting hardware and harnesses specific to 2002-2005 Thunderbirds so the factory
Steering Wheel Controls work if anybody needs those
part numbers. If it is sunny this weekend, I will install it and snap some jpegs.
