Love my 2005 gold anniv. T-bird, but seems noisier than normal and than it used to be when new. Ford said it's running great. Wondering if it could be the tires (original Michelin), manifold or something else causing it to be loud. For instance, when I'm driving, the faster I go the louder it gets .. I can hardly hear the radio and the seat vibrates from the noise. I know the 05 has a larger engine, but I'd like to hear the radio and not have my ears ring after a long drive! 35K miles. Any suggestions?

Loud 2004 TBIRD

Cally.......I have the same problem with my 2004. The road noise is really roaring at about 50 - 60 MPH and slightly diminishes after 70. The noise has steadily increased in volume in the last 6 months. Hardly drive this car (5,000 miles in 18 months) but no one seems to have an answer for this one !!

This is the first I have heard of noise, in 12+ years.
BUT, if you bought used, possibly the exhaust was changed and someone has added Magnafows or Borla's or possibly just the rear resonator was removed and a straight pipe replaced it. Just a thought.

I put Borla's on many year ago and the "drone" sound seems to be getting louder to me.

Wheel bearings can make noise like bad tires, and be hard to pin down. Your comment about feeling it in the seat reminds me of the wheel bearings I've had issues with in the past.

Noise

Odd tire wear (like cupping) can get loud - like rough snow tires.
Rub your hand around the tire. If it goes easily in one direction but catches or feels bumpy in the other direction, you may have found your problem.
Good luck:

Loud Noise

I have a 2004 TBird............very loud noise.

Had the front wheel bearings replaced and that took care of the problem 1

Runs real quiet now...........

Dempsey

Yep, it was definitely the front wheel bearings on my 2004 also. Had them replaced and no problem going forward. Only drive the car about 5K a year.
