Okay had all the symptoms that two other posts have indicated, Wrench light comes on and the car slows down to a stop. Turning off and turning back on the car it starts up and I drive it home but in a few days the problem comes back.
I went to dealer like others, and they tell me new Throttle Body and we all know that means - 1000.00 repair bill.
We also all know that this part is on back order and parts dealer si not even shipping until late february.

My concern is that some people have had this part and work done and it does not correct the problem, and another gentlemen posted something about Coils on Plug(COP)????

Where can I find out more about this, what does this mean? Any recomendations for how to know if this should be examined first and fixed?
I have another privately owned service shop I am thinking of taking the T-bird to and asking them to look at "COP" but what do I tell them to do? What parts are involved???

Where I can read what this is so I can tell my private garage what to do??
feel free to email directly if you want: palmsprings_shirl@*********

LASTLY - This sounds like Ford needs to issue a recall on this as it is cleary poor workmanship/mechanical failure. This is definitely a safety issue to have this on the highway and have your car just shut down. Has anyone spoken to Ford about this????

Help a gal out - PLEASE!

so i go to the ford dealer about 2 hours ago and demand to talk to the service manager, I have all my paperwork from this website, all the vin information on my car(yes it was manufactured at the wixom plant) and start asking him about The Cops custmer satisfaction program ... he then brings up the error codes they found on 04 tbird and he shows me the actual correspending service screens that align with the codes and the actual part needed is a throttle body sensor, I visulay see this on the screen.
He starts to say that it might be that they can not get this part separately and thus I might have to purchase the entire throttle body assembly unit & motor.
He will look into this and get back to me....total BS, 2 minutes on the internet and I find it is readily available and the cost online is @40.00, from Ford Parts at the dealers it is 111.00.

I am being chumped by this dealer and am going back to get my money back for the Throttle body assembly unit I ordered(on back order until late february) and going else where for the work!
These dealers are scum!! Palm Springs Motors if anyone cares!

Is it correct you have an '04??? If so you are covered up to 100,000 miles for COPS. When they go into their OASIS system, it will tell them that. Do a search above and you'll see the Ford Letter about the extended warranty on COPS. 2003 thry 2005. My 2002 is NOT includeded and there is no chance of a law suit.
If you are not using a Lincoln dealer, yoiu should. They know these cars better than Ford dealers since your drive train is all Lincoln.
BTW, regardless of year you can stiull get a used car warranty. Mine was out of warranty for 3 years and I just bought one from Ford dealer 6 months ago. My dealer wanted $1600 for 4 years and 48,000 miles on top of the miles on the car. I found a Ford dealer in Ill, that sold me the same warranty for $1299.
Again, you can find most anything usinmg the search above.

Thanks for responding George, I purchased an aftermarket exteneded warranty and not the one from Ford when I purchased the car. The Ford dealer never even mentioned it was available from Ford. I thought I was doing all the right things but found out that this warranty excluded throttle bodies.

Buyer beware $ucks, read this board and learn as much as you can.
The information here has been very helpful to me.
I've downloaded all the COPs informatio and handed over to the deale, they seem astounded that I know what I am talking about.

Shirley, Yes sometimes those aftermarket warranties are tough.BTW, It was just last year that Ford started offering us 'used car' warranties. I guess they thgink it will be a $$ maker for them.
If you cannot find the letters with the 100,000 mile extention, I can send you a copy. But the dealer should have it on their system.
Based upon the forum, I do believe we know more than the Ford dealers, but not more than the Lincoln dealers since the Lincoln and Thunderbird have the same drive train, so simil;ar issues.
Good luck and keep us posted.

i too looked into aftermarket warranties fo my '02. i found that some EXCLUDE LUBRICATED PARTS. now we all know that most all the internal engine parts are lubricated, so they are practically useless. read carefully.

Good to see you posting again David. If you add a warranty, I recommend Ford. Especially since they are offering these as used car warranties since ours are gone. Great program!!
