I have an 03 Bird that has recently developed a high pitched whining noise when I first start it up. After it warms up, the sound goes away. Any ideas, bearing..fan belt...? Thanks for any and all ideas.

Check all your fluid levels.

I just have to ask, does this sound seem to come from the passenger side of the cabin? Just thinkin', maybe there is an easy fix here.

Agree with biddle. Check your PS fluid level. (Though if you've ever heard the PS whine before, you'd know exactly what that sounds like.)

It sounds like the engine compartment..more towards the front.

You could open the hood before starting & have someone else start the car for you while you listen, maybe you could pin point it down.

Well I've owned my 2003 for about 2 weeks now and have put on about 150 miles. Took it for a nice drive Sat. ran fine. Today I take it out of the garage to wash and wax it. I noticed when I started it back up to put it away I noticed a high pitched whining noise while idling in park. Then I noticed the check engine light was on. I'll take it to Autozone tomorrow for a scan but any idea what this whining noise could be and could it be related to the check engine light coming on? Engine idles OK but the noise is annoying. As it warms up whine seems to settle down a bit but still there.
