Hi, I have 2003 that has 38,720 miles. The ABS, Traction Control and Brake light with ! symbol came on dash when started. The car will run but drives like a tank for steering, speedo does not work and brakes feel weird. There are no fluid leaks and fluids are full.

I had the codes on a Launch reader say PCM: P0500FF, P1000FF, P2106FF, U1039FF, EATC: B1262, B2799,B1265, B2426, ACM: U1041, U2003. A BlueDriver reader says PCM: P1000, ABM: B1342, REM: U1041, Generic Body Electronic: U1041, Instrument Cluster: U1262, U1041, EATC: B2426.

When codes have been reset by the Launch Reader the car runs 100% fine for approx 5 miles. Shut it off and restart and the 3 lights come back and car is not right again. Sometimes the wrench and Check Engine light will also come on. I have one Transmission place telling me he thinks the PCM needs replacing or repaired according to the codes. Another transmission place wants to do a full diagnostic. I have the read the posts where someone cleaned the ABS module connectors. I bought 3 vehicle speed sensors for the transmission (dropping it somewhat to replace them) but not sure if they need replacing or not.

Any help with a direction to go forward would be greatly appreciated my fellow Tbirders.

PS I have oil changed regularly and always 92 octane fuel. Repairs: changed the rear disc pads (2016), COP's (26K, 2017, due to rough running), New A/C compressor, ac belt (2019, 30k mileage), Fuel filter (2020, 30.5k), Power Steering fluid replaced (2023, 35.6K), Cabin Filter and Air filter (2024, 38k), New Battery - SSB 65PLT (2025, 38,7K).

Thank you for the info on the ABS module. Does the battery have to be disconnected before removing the module?

Anytime you disconnect any control module in any vehicle, the first thing you should do is to disconnect the battery. Before you start removing the ABS control module do some basic testing first. You stated the PCM has fault code P0500 stored in memory, that would be a good place to start.

Thank you for the info. Anything electrical I was thinking yes best to do battery. Wish this was just an easy fix but it's getting complicated and I'll have to have someone do these tests. I am not getting any "C" codes for the wheel sensors so thinking they are okay. Will have to work on this. Ugh.

My car is fixed! After diving into that workshop manual and assessing the error codes and how they are all related from one module to the next I decided to go with the ABS module and sent it to Module Masters to have them take a look at it. (Thank you @biddle for that info.) It took about 15 days from sending it off and getting it back. They opened it up and made some updates and sealed it back with clear silicone. After putting it in the car was giving me a code U1262, C1805 and B2900 under the ABS section and the U1041 from the REM. I called Module Masters and they said to leave the battery unhooked overnight to clear the codes and try again. Codes did not clear for some reason so I used the Clear Code function on the BlueDriver OBDII reader for all modules. Ran the car for 30 minutes at various speeds and rechecked codes. Codes came back so I cleared them again and did another test run. Codes were gone and all is right with the car. It took time for the PCM and ABS Modules to finally relearn I'm assuming and from what I read in the manual about diagnosis. Great manual and wealth of information. Very happy girl I am to drive my 007 once again!! Thank you all for your help.

I've been dealing with this same problem. This spring, I had to replace the battery, and I took note of the information I read about the steps to take when replacing a battery. Viola, problem solved, or so I thought. Soon, the three icons would light up at different times, go off and on, sometimes one at a time, and all three. Eventually, the engine icon came on, and now all 4 were lit. The car sits for a week and, poof! Everything is cleared. a day or so later engine light is back and the other 3 soon follow. As I'm drivingg the other day the engine light just shuts off. Park the car for a few days and start it everything is clear again. The car runs fine, at times I lose the cruise control but it will come back randomly. Does anybody have any insight as to what is going on? Or is there a gremlin in my car that's toying with me?

Anytime a warning light illuminates a fault code is stored in any number of the vehicle's control modules. It doesn't matter if the warning light is no longer illuminated, fault codes and freeze frame data is stored in the control module's memory. If you can tell me what fault codes are stored in the different control modules, I'll be able to help you with your concerns. Start by using a scan tool, not just an OBD code reader, to check for faults stored in all control modules.
