We just replaced the battery in our 2002 'bird. It was a 6 month process really, we kept letting it die, recharged it, let it die, etc. Mostly because we never drove it. Turned out it was the original battery in the car, and after so many years it just couldn't keep the charge (or charge all the way).

SO I finally replaced it with a Motorcraft 66 battery and after doing so now the yellow engine light is on. The car only has 55k miles and we've probably put 1000 on it the last year. The car runs fine, no rough idle, A/C works great, no overheating or any other indication of a problem.

Short of taking it to a mechanic to diagnose, is there anything you can think of I could check? Is it possible charging it over and over caused something to go bad? Any help is appreciated!

Try disconnecting the battery for an hour. Then reconnect it and see if that fixes it. No harm in trying

OR; return to the garage that did the install. Maybe both connections are not tight. Also be sure that they installed the vent tube properly...although this should not affect the performance or yellow light
