Ford Motors purchased Jaguar in 1999 and purchased Land Rover in 2000, selling both to Tata Motors in 2008

The Jaguar engine is NOT in the 2002-05 Thunderbird.
The 2002 has the Ford engine AJ-30 and the 2003-05 have the AJ-35. The big difference between the two is that the 03-05 engine is entirely electronically/computer controlled hence the term "drive by wire". It is worth noting that the engines, AJ-30 & AJ-35 are 3.9L variant with a unique displacement that was used only by Ford & Lincoln. The last AJ35 was produced in March 2006 after only 3 years.Total run of AJ30/35 was nearly 250,000 units, all installed in US manufactured vehicles.

The basic design of both engines was done by Jaguar but the engines in the Retros are a variant due to their unique displacement that Ford wanted in their Ford & Lincoln models. The block, crankshaft, pistons & connecting rods are the major unique parts to the engines in Fords & Lincolns. These engines were all built in the US at the Ford engine plant in Lima, Ohio. The engines that were put into the Jaguar during the same years as the Retro build years were built in the UK by Jaguar and were unique to the displacement values that Jaguar designed only for Jaguar. They are NOT the same engine nor can one be used to replace the other due to transmission mating difficulties.

Hope this clears up this false fact that the 2002-05 engines are Jaguar designed & manufactured engines.

The Jaguar engine is NOT in the 2002-05 Thunderbird.

I'm sure the OP meant how did a Jaguar-designed engine end up in the Thunderbird. It's not like Ford made the engine from scratch, they tweaked an engine someone else designed. Obviously, there is a /Jaguar designed engine in a Ford car because Ford bought Jaguar during that time period.

As you can see above, I answered his question.
