Chief:

Personally I used exactly one GOOD LONG SQUIRT into a 5 gallon bucket. It gives lots of suds which went all over the place as I filled the bucket.

I don't think it's an exact science. You just nned to have plenty of the "grease cutters" they put in Dawn to make sure the wax is taken off.

Are you planning to use Zaino? If you want a more informed opinion you can ask the guys at Zaino http://www.zainobros.com they can surely tell you.

Good luck.

According to the instructions that were in the Claybar container, "Mix 1 ounce of Liquid Dawn to 2.5 gallons of water for an effective cleaning solution". It makes no mention of hot or cold water. When I washed my car, I used luke warm water. It turned out beautiful-Slyfoxxmi

If you use Zaino or any of the other products on your car when it first arrives and before you wax the finish, is it necessary to wash the car with Dawn first?

Yes...Dawn will remove any wax that is put on from the factory...it will take it down to the clearcoat...you use the clay bar after this wax has been removed...then the Z1 lock and Z2 polish on top of Z1 lock...

But yes, the Dawn must even be used on a new car.

Thanks JimBob!

I didn't realize that washing with Dawn would be necessary. I have ordered my Zaino products and my car.... Wonder which one will show up first..

You're more than welcome...I did my car the first week I had it (got the Zaino from a distributor here in Phoenix)...looks AWESOME...was so impressed I took the next weekend and did my wife's BMW...

My bets are on the Zaino to arrive first...but the Bird will be close behind (wouldn't that be a hoot if they both arrived the same day!)

The value that Dawn has over even many other DISHWASHING soaps is that it cuts grease (or in our cases, removes wax).

Don't know the particular Meguires you're talking about, but most of theirs is made to PROTECT the wax finish, not remove it.

Why should you remove the factory wax??

Ronnie:

You remove the wax on the car before you Zaino because Zaino is made to bond to the paint, not wax.

Also, when you are done your fingernails are ever so clean...

I used the Zaino Car wash rather than Dawn. When you mix it as instructed with water and then Claybar the car, the claybar removes the wax and any other impurities before you put on the Zaino treatment. Dawn or Zaino wash, but make sure you do something to get rid of the factory and dealer prep wax before you treat the car to Zaino.

Zaino recommends using Dawn for removal of all wax prior to clay bar and Zaino product application. See zainobros.com for specific recommendations under their applications section.
