Perimeter Antitheft System

Help,
Can anyone tell me just what the Perimeter Antitheft system does? The salesman told me that it does very little. But, PERIMETER suggests that it has some kind of proximety alarm.

I know nothing about such alarms. Please help me out. Thanks in advance.

In this case, I think perimeter means it makes a lot of noise when somone tries to open a locked door. I tend to agree with your salesman about it. 🙂

I learned the hard way that with the doors locked and the top down you don't reach inside to unlock the doors or open the engine compartment. I found this out to my embarrassment showing the car to curious onlookers. The perimeter system also disables the trunk opening button in the driver's door even if it's not locked.
