I guess I am just to old to relate to this younger generation, even though my wife and I have 7 children, and now have seven grand children. We did not think twice about putting our name on the list as soon as we found out about the new T Bird. We were still not concerned when we got to order, last Jan. at MSRP + $1000. deposit.
WE both come from farm families and have worked very hard for what little we have. The last several years we have had to work at other jobs, because farming just didn't pay the bills. Now, due to 9-11-01, my wife may loose her job, but if at all possible we will own our T Bird when it comes in. And, to all of you young people who have no idea what hard work is, or the value of a dollar, just give up your spot in line, or your car, to an old couple that have waited a life time for a dream to come true. Merry Christmas all!

Model T, very nicely put. I do agree with you that some of these people have no idea what hard work really is. After 37 years with one Company I finally retired...YAHOO
Well good luck with your new TBird and let us know how you make out. Yor deserve to treat yourselves after all the work and love you have done/given. Joy

Model T - Farming is a poverty occupation
anymore. My Grandfather and Dad farmed, it
was suggested I try another source. A good
recommendation. Still have the property but
its leased to big farming groups. Not much
choice. A couple of months ago talked too
a friend of mine who did go into the family
business. Said they get by and live
comfortably, but he enjoys the family
farm so satisfied. In our area himself and
another guy (in my age group) are all thats
left giving it a go. Really think one
can say the family farm is gone.

Model T,
My response to that is "whatever". From my perspective it sounds like you are tooting your own horn. My dad had me working in his business and running a store at age 16 during the summer. When I went to college, he made ME pay for it, and he didn't give me crap. I found out when I got out of school that they only want you if you have experience, so I went to work at a car lot busted my rear end for 60-70 hours a week, lived in a 450.00/month 60 year old house with my wife that we rented and saved every penny I could until I had enough money to buy my own business computer equipment and start my own business. Then after I was self employed we still had to bust our butt for 60-80 hours a week to stay afloat for about 3 years. Four years later and at the age of 30, I finally have a nice place, one new car, one 10 year old car and a very nice income that steadily rises. So every 20-30 year old is not lazy and mooching off their parents. Parents are enablers, they do not encourage self-motivation and ambition. They spoil them but that is poor parenting.

TBird

Well, looks like we've had an interesting exchange here... Amazing how topics get started. First off, my first tbird is my current 1997 LX. I'm 25 years old, I started a company 4 years ago with nothing and have built it to a position where I've got good money coming in. Yet I DO understand the value of money which is why I'm reluctant to throw extra money away on this car regardless of how cool it is.

In the county I'm in I also have to spit out 8.75% in sales tax when I buy the thing so for a $40k purchase that's another $3500. So, not only is dealer gouging preventing me from purchasing it but big socialist government taxes are as well. No big deal, I'll wait for 2003 and buy one at closer to invoice price. Think about the the tax burden though, at MSRP the government would probably be making more on the car than the dealership... Only in America..

Looks like you guys have gotten off the subject a little. Supply and demand is what its all about and you either pay up or go with out. We all know the drill by now you see it with computers, cars, beany babies ect.. I love my new Thunderbird, the dealer could have charged me more than the 5k over and I would have paid. I have also bought Rolls Royce cars and I guarantee you don't know what pain is. Take it easy on each other it's all about fun and cars.

Well, lets see, according to the Cato Institute the average American pays almost 50% of his income in one form of tax or another. Which means, I will have to make $80,000 to pay for the $40,000 tbird. Then, the county or state gets $3500. But, then the salesman, dealership and ford have to pay tax on the profits/commissions, which if the dealer is making $5000, that's another $2500 for the goverment, and lets say that ford makes another $5000 which is another $2500 for the government. In Total:

$40000
$ 3500
$ 2500
$ 2500
------
$48500 The government makes on a $40,000 thunderbird. Something's not right here... hmm...

Don't forget about the business licenses that Ford had to buy and the taxes they pay on employees that built the cars and the property tax for the plant etc etc. Wow, they are making a killing.

Don't forget the Billions the Government has used from these T-Birds and other things to redecorate the Afganistan landscape! Maybe they are making the most money, but they are putting it to good use.

darn, we're all pretty passionate about this car!!

How dare someone post some off-beat criticism here that doesn't have something legit about it.

This all started because someone thought-- and then opined--that the only reason people are paying above MSRP is because they want to be first.

So much for that thought!!

Happy Holidays!!!!!!!

P.S. Even in Southern California -- "You are what you drive" -- the 02 Bird is the new King of the Road. I see Porsche Turbos everywhere and post of them are checking out the bird!

Were you being sarcastic when you said putting it to good use? I mean, going on a bombing campaign in an area of the world that has already seen millions of casualities as a result of American foreign policy? I guess once the government spends money messing things up they need spend more money to fix it by covering their tracks.. So maybe bombing is a good idea.. Still, the federal budget is around 2.2 trillion this year and was around 1 trillion 10 years ago. I really don't think I'm getting twice as much from the government these days.. Well, maybe twice more surveillance, illegal searches and seizures and the complete destruction of every last principle of our founding fathers.

If history repeats itself, we will pay for them to rebuild, and then they will start making automobiles which some Americans will buy.

OK-since this post is so off-topic now-did everyone forget who attacked us from Afghanistan-and who was supporting the (expletive deleted) that attacked us?

No matter how hard you complain-we still have the best country to live in-if you have any doubts about that, go spend a year or two in another country-I have.

Back to the topic-Christos, if you don't like the pricing, don't buy a new one. wait a year-either the prices will drop, or you'll be able to buy a used one for a better price. One thing is certain-the Birds will only increase in value as time goes by. I have a copy of Old Cars Price Guide, and a 1993 LX with the 5.0 HO option is now worth $10,100-I paid $4995 for the one I use as a daily driver, which also happens to be the last Bird from the factory with the 5.0 SB.

Happy Holidays!

christos-i guess if you don't like the way the good ole us govt. does things, i guess the best thing to do is move in with john walker. he's another apparent liberal anti-U.S. that like all the rest, seem to bitch a lot about a country that is the greatest on earth, and if ya' don't like anything about it, LEAVE!! THE PROBLEM IS, WHO WANTS TWICE AS MUCH FROM THE GOV'T?? try getting it on your own. as far as illegal searches,etc.?, whatewver it takes to get rid of terrorists and crimainals. then maybe the ACLU could find something useful to do with their time

Maybe christos 99 should find another board to post on and get a better job making $80,000 a year so he could buy a T-Bird.
Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS.

cristos99 sounds like one of the many bleeding heart liberals who doesn't have a clue and can only complain about things instead of coming up with ways to solve problems.

I have been reading this board for about two months. Seems like there always has to be one as----- on the board to keep things interesting/annoying. It looks like you got rid of the biggest as-----, Gary Whitaker. At least, we all hope you did.
This is a great board with many great people who have a wealth of info and good ideas. I hope to be ordering an '03 as soon as the dealers will enter the order. Already have a deposit down.

Mikey. WATCH IT , I'm one of those LIBERALS, but I don't agree with anything HE has to say.
The kids and grand kids well soon invade our little house for dinner and gifts. It's nice but it's also nice to get the house back after they all leave. Merry XMAS.
