Thunderbird Year
2002
Anyone who has had one of our Thunderbirds knows how expensive it can get if anything goes wrong. NOTE: October 1st is the DEADLINE to buy a Ford Extended Warranty for 2002's. In three more weeks 2002's will NOT be eligible, ever again, for a Ford extended warranty.

Of course the cost of an extended warranty varies depending on how many miles your car has, and what level of coverage you choose, and for how long. I have less than 13,000 miles on my 2002 and I am buying the 5 year 48,000 Premium Care coverage for less than $1,700 from an internet Ford Dealer: http://www.lombardfordwarrantys.com/ My local dealer wanted over $2,000 for the same policy! If you cant get a good deal from your local dealer and choose Lombard, at their website, you enter your information and minutes later they will send you a discount code good for $190 off. That's where my $1,690 purchase price came from. Good luck whatever you choose but remember there's only until Oct 1st to buy it for 2002's. A 2003 owner has another year to buy it.

NOTE: If your 2002 (or 2003-2005) is out of warranty (as mine is) you will have to have the car inspected for about $100 before they will issue the policy. If you buy from your local dealer they will perform the inspection for $100 - if you buy the policy from Lombard they will send someone out to your house to inspect the car for the $100.

Quickdraw...........My 2002 t-Bird has about the same mileage as yours. My extended warranty will be expiring soon and want to get annother. Do you know if the extended warranties cover the COP's on our year vehicle. Thanks

Red-T-Bird,
Yes, the Premium Care policy covers almost everything.. COPS included. You will have to buy the extended warranty NOW - you can not wait until your current policy is expiring. After Oct 1 a 2002 can not get coverage from Ford. If you still have time left on your existing warranty they should refund you for the unused months on your old policy.

These are very negotiable. Many dealers ask $800-$1000 over cost.
I got 4 year 36000 for $1500. Another dealer said he would have never sold it for that

Right, the dealer quoted me $2,300 at first, When I showed him the $1,690 price quote from Lombard (online) they came down to $1,750. This was for 5 year 48,000 mile coverage, $100 deductible, for my car with 13,000 miles. Same price for anything under 40,000 miles.

I thinks it is great that Ford would still offer this on a 10+ year old car. I currently have 19000 miles on mine and so far never had an issue, but wanted the additional security.
I did get the premium care but didn't realize it covered the COPS. Is that spelled out specifically that in the paperwork you received, or is it under another clause? BTW, I bought mine from a local Lincoln dealer who is willing to take orders from others. One from FL and one from TX has already taken him up on the offer.

I dunno if it is specifically spelled out "COPS" but think it basically covers everything that goes wrong except an appearance or normal maintenance item.
