I've seen a few ebay auctions for hard tops. But has anyone looked into purchasing them directly from a dealership? Any ideas on cost?

I have a 2003 Red T-Bird Premium with a Red hard top, I've seen pictures of the same car with a white and a black top and both look sharp.

Try some previous posts in this forum. I think some have checked the factory price from parts and it is above $5000.00.

The option price when adding a hard top to a Premium is $2500. I don't see any reason why the price should be any different if purchased separately, unless Ford is gouging customers.

An option when ordered with the car is ALWAYS cheaper than buying it from the dealer later, Ford, GM, Toyota, doesn't matter. The fog lights are a free option on new birds, but not over the counter, the top boot cover is a $150 option but $500+ over the counter.

The factory is set up to give you a top when your car is built, there isn't even any extra shipping charge to sell it to you. Buy it later, Ford has to maintain parts warehouses, have money tied up in inventory, people to handle the order, etc...

Ebay is the way to buy almost anything at the best possible price. The top should cost you less than $1,800...

Thanks QuickDraw. I misspoke when I said the price shouldn't be any different. What I meant was that it shouldn't be significantly different, at least not to the tune of $5000. I am curious though, if anyone knows the actual over-the-counter price from Ford.

Why not repaint it ???
This is what I'm going to have to do before November to my hardtop....mine was damaged and has deep scratches on the roof. I've been thinking for a long time about putting a black top on my MS Grey, but the cost and storage of another top was a bit prohibitive.

Now that I have to have it painted anyway, I'm going to change it to black.

Have you gotten a price quote on the repaint?

No Harry, I haven't priced it out yet or talked to my dealer's body shop manager yet. Any idea what I might expect? I'm hoping it's not too much, since it's coming out of my pocket. It would come out of my daughter's pocket if she had a job! 🙄

Just a guess but I'd think it would cost you $300.
