The other day I discovered a good bit of water in behind the passenger seat. Shocked to say the least. (73K+ miles 2005). There had been some wet spots before but nothing like this. I decided to take it to the Lincoln place to see if they could figure it out.
I got in and inserted the key. The horn started blowing. It quit when I cut the key off. Called the lincoln dealer and they towed it in. (Extended warranty so no charge) We had to leave it there. The next day service man called said it was the clock spring assemble, and they had to order it from Ford. 6 days later, got the car back, and working fine.
For those who keep up with this sort of thing,
Clock Spring Assembly FP Number 3W614A664-AA, Cover A.
No charge, covered by warranty.
Also they couldn't fix the leak, I took it to a shop that understands convertibles. The drain on the passenger side was stopped up and there were a couple of weak spots on the window. They cleaned the drain and used some glue for something, don't remember what now.
Car is fine and wife is happy!!!!!!!

Great post, Thanks. Now there's a case where the ext warranty pays off. 😎

I've heard of a few of these clocksprings going bad in the past 10 years 😡

One owner did his in two hours, part cost $110 and he had to buy a special tool for $15.00 -Another had an independant do hers and it cost $315.
I'm sure Ford will do it for slightly more
