2004 Heater Control Valve, R&R?

I have a copy of the 2005 shop manual, but the 2004 should be the same since only the 2002 had a significantly different engine room. The process in the manual does say to remove the upper hose. But- there's a lot of troubleshooting before you get to the heater control valve. It's called the Dual Coolant Flow Valve and it's solenoid controlled by the climate control module, so there are many electronic things that can go awry and tell the simple solenoid valve to do the wrong thing.
 
Probably better to have it properly analyzed. Our '05 was blowing hot air out of the A/C vents when it should've been cold. It turned out to be a sensor behind the dash. The estimate was 1,500.00 . The mechanic found a way to change it without the dash removed. He only had to remove the radio and glovebox. The bill was 700.00 . Problem solved.

The Dual Coolant Flow Valve is on the front of the engine, passenger side, below the top radiator hose. It has several hose connections. The climate control system is in several places. I suggest you spring for one of the shop manuals on EBay if you want to do your own troubleshooting. The wiring diagrams usually come with them, but they’re also on EBay and are pretty cheap. The Shop Manuals have troubleshooting steps that mostly require a multimeter. This is a sophisticated vehicle, and has computers, sensors, and communications networks for things that were pretty simple systems on older cars.
