My 2002 in Miami needs Freon. Apparently, this isn’t easy to fix. A mechanic it was taken to didn’t want to do it and suggested I take it to a Ford dealer for this service.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Thank you

Find someone that specializes in A/C repair to give you a repair estimate. You live in Miami, this should not be hard. You don't need to go to the dealership.

Nobody can fix or diagnose an A/C system over the internet.

It's fairly easy if you take it to a place that knows. You need gauges to diagnose. I fixed mine myself. Replaced the compressor and then replaced a leaking hose. I would start by charging it and seeing if the compressor clicks on and off. You can get cans of freon at WalMart and gauges on Amazon. Instructions on YouTube. You also need a scale to ensure you put the right weight in the system. More than likely, you just have a leaky hose. Mine was the one from the compressor to the passenger side, it follows the radiator when you remove the plastic cover under the car.

My experience with cold/driver, hot passenger side/not very cold anywhere. The Ford dealer put in a fluid that contained a traceable marker dye. After a week of driving, I came back and found that there was a rock puncture in the condenser in the front of the radiator. Every thing was good when the leaking condenser was replaced. Go to a good AC shop and do the same process.
