I have a 1981 with 302. When attempting to fill the tank the gas nozzle will cut off repeatedly. Takes a long time to fill up. It is not the nozzle as each service station that I go to it does the same thing.

Strongly suggest picking a better subject next time. "1981 T-Bird gas tank" could mean anything. Updated title.

try looking for and replacing the goose neck pipe where the cap goes on. It usually slides into the tank in a rubber sleeve and clamp. Check everything out when you take it off making sure anything isn't plugging up any part of it.
