Im having a issue with my car not going into park that’s a little different than ones that I can find in the past posts. Since I bought the car it will not go into park I have to start it in neutral or the normal over the steering wheel and pull up. As soon as I let go after getting it started it falls into reverse. I can’t get it in park at all. Clearly this is a normal issue but from what I’m seeing normally people can still get it in park.

You need a new shifter and or detent plate. You can pull up on shifter and slide steering wheel to the right to keep in park for now

@64Burd- please follow the posting prompts and add the four-digit model year to the subject on your future posts. I've revised it.

You need to check the shift rod adjustment at the trans. Block the wheels and put it up on jackstands. Disconnect the rod and manually put the trans in park.check your shift lever and make sure it goes into park, then reconnect.
