I had a problem where the transfer tube from one side of the saddle tank to the other had come off the pump. The guage registered a little under a half of the tank of fuel and then went directly to empty and I was lucky to make it off the interstate and get to a gas station. The code came up as a bad fuel pump but turn out to be the transfer tube. It was an installation problem from the factory. The exhaust, heat shield, and the tank all have to come out to do the repair and I recommend to let a repair shop or Ford do it for you as you are dealing with gas and one false move could cause a fire.
