Rear end noise

Will 2002 and 2004 rear axle carriers interchange. My 2002 with 50000 miles has a real bad howling sound. How much is it to fix the bearing if that the problem

14 views and no one has had this problem. Come on guys share your wisdom. My car is put away for winter and I'd like to have a plan for spring to get it fixed.

I would call or visit a good driveline shop in your area. They should be able to do a good job and idea of the cost.

Yes that is what I am going to do. I was just wondering what has been the problem with them rear gears or bearings. It doesn't clunk on pull out or stopping or during shifting.

Hi Lipster:

I had the same problem w/2002 model.

Ford Dealer replaced a Bearing for $150. Much better now.

Dealer said it was a common problem.

For that kind of money, I'm betting on one of the outer wheel bearings.
They will find it on a hoist with the car in gear and a stethoscope.
