😕 Does anyone know if I can have my 03 Bird and my 05 Bird Keyed alike?
Who and at what cost will do this( general $$). My dealer says it will not work because
computer coded chips will not work in one and the other??
On older cars all you had to do was change the pins in the locks and you could have many same product cars keyed alike.

The dealer should know but I thought you COULD do that.... you can buy a extra keys and teach the car to recognize the coded keys it so I don't know why you couldn't teach two cars to recognize the same keys. Would you want to change the door locks too? And the trunk release on the drivers door and also behind the seat? I'd think after you got all the tumblers out of one car a locksmith could key them mechanically alike and then you'd have to have them reinstalled and programed. A good locksmith might be your best bet instead of the dealer but I'd bet it'll cost you $500-$1,000 The ignition and door locks are going to require some work to remove.

Please let us know how you make out if you go ahead with this...

Thanks for your info about lock change. I guess ANYTHING can be done for enough DOLLARS. I was wanting a rather small investment not $500-$1000.
Unless I can get a plan going I will live with one key for Me one key for Her!!!
I guess that after this much invested, whats another grand. Ha HA.
If you could get FORD to send duplicate lock sets like at Home depot for homes it would not be too expensive.
Will advise as I check more options. Have not checked $$ with local lock shops.

Its only half your solution but you can reprogram the key-fobs to work both cars at zero cost.

Ford Keys

I am not sure how the electronics play into this, but older Ford cars used a key that is cut on both sides (the newer ones are also cut on both sides). It was possible to cut one car on one side of the key and another on the other side of the key. The lock only uses one side of the key.

I don't know if this is remotely useful with modern electronics.
