Last week tried to find a premium oil filter for the car. None.
Not Wally World, Target or 3 auto parts stores tried. They
don't have anything listed except the basic Fram, STP and
Motorcraft.

At NAPA they had one they claimed was better. You could
see when looking inside it did have twice as many pleats
than the base Fram. A floor display had a pull apart showing
the same. So the Fram went back. Surprised since can find
several grades of filters for trucks and many other cars.

Also found out they have a 5-20 syn blend and a 5-20
reg oil. So when go to the oil shops need to make sure
they read the manual as to what the car needs.

Hi,

A friend of mine is a parts man at a local Ford dealer so I just buy a supply of filters from him. Retail is about $15 each but I pay around $8. You will not find these in many parts stores, especially the chains. Why? Well, this filter is for the Lincoln LS and probably the Jag. How many of these owners change their own oil? Not many. So, with the price of this filter being so high, they are not going to keep them in stock. Probably once more are on the road and more are out of warranty, they will stock them.

I always use Motorcraft filters, especially during warranty. If something does go awry, Ford certainly could not blame the filter choice. I am sure the Napa filter is fine (the only chain parts store worth visiting in my opinion).

My bird has about 11 k miles and I head out from LA today with it for the Ford 100 weekend in Dearborn. I bought it on 6/2/02. Just replaced the air filter (it was pretty dirty) and the cabin filter (located under the hood, right side by the cowl).

Happy Motoring.

Mike

The NAPA filter is made in Germany, it cost about $11. The
Fram was about $5. The oil change shop has penzsoil (sp)
filters which I'm sure are made by fram. They seem to stock
the oil choices and filters since quite a few LS8 run around
the area. Know of 2 other bird that go in.

Was looking for a Mobil 1 which is what use in the other
car and truck.

The only car that went to the dealership for changes was
the LS8 because all free under a lease. Everytime
it came back with oil on the steering wheel, interior door
or carpeting. Course the service rep jumped right on it
to clean up. At least the oil place use by the house you
can stand right next to it or walk under if you want too.
If a goof happens know about it. They have you drive
the car on/off the lift. Guess they don't want someone
keeling over from oil on blue seats.

Brought a Fram Double Guard/teflon this morning to change
the trucks oil. They were out of mobil 1 filters. The Double guard
has some type of shield making it difficult to see the pleating
pattern inside. Would be interesting to hear from a filter
tech as to what one really needs to look for.

Price was just under $8

While there look at one for our hyundia Santa Fe V6, that
filter was so small was hard to believe it could do any good.
