Auto transmission pipe?

Hi, just pulled my transmission out for a general clean up and noted this broken pipe fitting towards the top edge. There wasn't anything attached as far as I could see, anyone know what its for as nothing shown or mentioned in the workshop manual I have? Presume this is a cruise a matic trans.
