Hi,

My 2003 just had it's transmission rebuilt and the mechanic noticed oil leaking from the passenger side valve cover. I did notice some smoke and burning smell last fall but hoped it would not show up in the spring. I checked with the dealer and they want $115.00 per side for the gaskets. Rock Auto has MAHLE oem gasket sets for $59.00. Has anyone had any experience with these aftermarket gaskets or any other brands.

Thanks

Fred

I would 100% go with aftermarket gaskets. They are generally all made by the same 2-3 companies, even the OEM. I've used FelPro for years with great success. Much cheaper and you get more in the aftermarket kit than you would OEM.

by the way, did you replace the gaskets yourself? If so, can you offer tips?

I'm about to do a coil/plug/gasket repair on my 02. Does anyone here happen to know the torque spec for the valve cover gasket?
no, but after you do can you let me know steps you had to take to get cover off, etc. I also, believe, I need to redo timing chain cover gaskets; thinking if have to, do all @ one time.
