For those who have been looking in vain for a solution to not having to drill your T-Birds front bumper, I've finally found the solution! Like many of you, I searched in vain for a "floating" bracket. Searching my memory bank I remembered my old 1990 Miata front plate bracket, bought a new one, and low and behold it works for my '04 Bird!
There are two pre-drilled holes for mounting underneath the car but allthough the pre-drilled holes workfor a Miata, the holes are two far inward to be used on your Thunderbird, so instead just drill into the two nearer non drilled "indents" in the bracket and you'll be fine. (You don't even have to cut off the excess metal)
Your front plate will then be mounted with about 3 inches of room "floating" in front of your Bird's bumper.
I'm going to try to attach several pictures including the bracket and the mounting on my car.
