Your gas cap isn't holding pressure in the tank. Same thing happened to me. Get a new cap.

Not necessarily, I have changed water pumps in older cars where the pump blades had eroded from lack of cooling system maintenance. That resulted in overheating.
I had a 2001 Lincoln LS with the same engine that I owned for 15 years. The gurgling is an indication of low coolant level causing the engine to overheat. My first problem causing gurgling was a crack in the coolant overflow tank. I replaced the tank and that fixed the problem for a while. Next up was a cracked thermostat housing. These engines have a plastic thermostat housing which will crack due to age. After replacing the thermostat housing, the car ran well for a short while. But in the end, so much overheating caused a head gasket to fail.
