2002 Momentary loss of AC

Driving my ‘bird’ a few evenings ago, the AC switched from cold to not cold, more like the 85 degrees outside. I turned the AC off for the rest of the trip. The next day I turned AC on and it worked.
Any ideas as to what caused the problem?
