I have a 1976. I lost the key. I removed the steering wheel. The steering column collar that holds the cylinder has no splits or screws. How do I remove the cylinder to have a locksmith make a key that matches the tumbler? I don't want to destroy the cylinder because I would have to replace the door & trunk locks.

You need a mobile locksmith. The key is required to remove the cylinder.

There is only one locksmith in town & he says the car is too old for him to be able to do anything. Is there any way to disassemble the area around the cylinder to get at the cylinder? I don't care if the steering wheel lock gets broken.

No, not really. That's a 6 pin lock cylinder that's actually not very to pick or make keys for. Seems like he's passing on easy money.
Head over to your local tow yard. They usually know someone who can make keys.
