Recharged the AC system and it is perfect except the sight glass leaks. Thunderbird Headquarters sells a rebuilt site glass for $170 why the high cost, how hard can it be to rebuild the sight glass? What am I missing here ?

It probably has some special sealant that normal people can't buy...

You are dealing with very high pressure (300 psi). I suspefct the sight glass is moulded into the fitting during the manufacturing process. You may be able to find a generic sight glass for less money that you could adapt.

Hopefully after the charge bleeds off I can disassemble and know more about it. I worked in the aerospace industry 40 years and know of no special sealant from the 60"s that is unobtainable today that can hold hold the pressure other than crush washers or O rings. I might just weld up the 4 view holes and make a straight pipe section of it. Sight glass is a nice option but not worth the $170 rebuild fee to me, that is unless it's a really hot day! lol Thanks for the input harley and insp.
