I acquired my 62 convertible over the winter, inspected it, had no noises/taps/knocks, that I noticed, at least. I changed the plugs, wires, coil and timing as well as starter. I don't know when the knock started within that series of events, but it's there now. I performed the cylinder test to see if it is coming from a cylinder and if so, which one. Indeed it is, #1 cylinder, when I disconnect that wire the sound changes from a knock to more of a tap. I think this is major. Anyone have any advice other than plan for a rebuild?

Put the model year in the subject in future posts. (as it prompts you to do). I added for you.

Do a compression check of all cylinders and see if it's in spec to get a handle on overall cylinder health. But sounds like a rod knock or piston slap/defect.
