On my 61 Thunderbird, When i put it into park, It will automatically slip into reverse.
I have to lift the shifter up or move it to between reverse and neutral to get it to start.
When I swing the steering wheel to the right, it slips from park to reverse too.

What is the solution to this?

You could go with the less expensive / less physical option first and try adjusting the safety start switch. I'm fairly certain though, that the detent plate is the issue causing it to bounce out of park and into reverse.
