1960 Correct Starter for 352

will a later model starter(1965) fit in a 1960 thunderbird because either someone has changed the engine or the starter because the new starter I purchased does not look like the old one.

You were sold the wrong one. That starter is for the later model engines. here is a photo of what yours should look like, less the drive.
