Does anyone know the location of the 1959 Thunderbird a.m. radio factory amplifier location. I finally found the amp to go with the radio as I understand they will not work without the amp. About a 12 inch cord connects the amp to the radio so it can’t be too far away. Have never seen one as my cars amp is missing. Just found one on eBay and I’m not sure where to locate it

Wow, I'm not sure myself, except I believe it mounts on the firewall. I've got a bunch of these things; I keep throwing them out and they accumulate anyway. People send me these when I do conversions on these sets -- and they're no longer used. Be careful, as they are different for 1958, 1959, and 1960. It's not really an amp; it's basically the output transistors mounted on a heat sink. They couldn't fit it inside the radio . . .not exactly Motorola's best design.

Thanks. I just purchased a 59 radio and the amp together. I also have my 59 radio in the car that supposedly works from the repairman who told me that but was missing the amp. I wonder if I’m OK to plug it in and see if it works. If it doesn’t is there any fixing those ?

It should be interchangeable if the two sets are the same model number. The 1959 should be 94MS; the 58 is 84MS, and the 60 is 04MS.

Regarding repairs, I no longer offer this, and this model is one reason why. Tuning coils often go bad and they're impossible to reach without major disassembly, and usually unrepairable even then. If you want to discuss it further, feel free to e-mail me at radio@ (my name) *******.

Ok. I will When I get The radio in a few days. It’s a 94MS. Thanks very much.

I assume you have solved the location problem by now, but just in case: on my '60 it is mounted behind the driver side kick panel. Further away than twelve inches, though. Seems to me the short cable on the chassis plugs into the car's wiring harness and thereto the radio? Possibly different location on your '59, but I wouldn't expect it. Is it not shown on '59 assembly manual? Good luck!
