My 55 TBird trans delays shifting to reverse. With revving up couple of hundred RPM it shifts. Moving forward all is well.
Anybody who may have experienced this, please help.
Thanks, Frank

Since you have to rev the engine before the transmission shifts into reverse, I would suspect a leaking seal inside the transmission. For the transmission to shift into reverse, both the rear clutch and rear band have to be applied.

My 55 just started to be stubborn about backing up! It has had a shudder at times in reverse but no other issues. Now on flat ground (and fully warmed up) I hope and pray when I put it in reverse. So I went and grabbed the shop manual. OOOPS the Fordomatic is not covered. So I get to hurry up and wait for a transmission manual to show up.
