VIN Definition

I saw a posting or web site a while back that gave the meaning of the various letters and numbers of the Thunderbird VIN and I can’t remember where I saw it. Does anyone else remember seeing it and if so where can I find it.

Thanks! I thought they had a code for the color also guess not. Thanks again.

The door tag will have another set of codes which includes exterior paint and interior trim codes. I'll see if I can post a photo of a tag and find the code breakdowns that I have.

I believe you have a breakdown of the codes on the door panel. Take a look at files, Dot has a good breakdown of the VIN but is missing a lot on the door codes.

Question....if my '03 VIN (consecutive) number is 105210, does this mean that it is the 5,210 unit issued a '03 Vin #?

Yes. The VINs are issued consecutively as orders go to the plant but due to factory limitations, primarily paint booths I understand, Cars are actually scheduled and built somewhat out of order. The build sequence# (rotation #) on the VIN sticker located on the Driver's side front quarter panel just inside the hood shows the last 4 digits of actual build sequence rotation, I understand. For example, Although my '03 was VINed 01143, it was built 666th.
