I have 100k miles on my car, my brother doing me a favor had my transmission oil and filter changed in addition to other stuff. Now my transmission seems like it dissingages at lites and also at stop signs then after applying the gas seconds later it slams into gear, but only occassionally, not all the time. I suspect the dirty oil kept everything intact. Anyone think that maybe as the oil gets older, things will return to normal/ Or am I wishful thinking?

I have an older Mercury Sable and I asked the local shop about changing the transmission fluid, and he told me that I was better off leaving it AS IS because a lot of people have more problems after changing the fluid on high mileage cars. I don't know if this is true or not.

Update!

Transmission fluid change wasn't the problem, the Ford mechanic shorted my car two quarts of fluid! There is no way for a rookie to check this on this car. A fellow from Lee Miles checked it for me and found this out. Glad that I don't need a new transmission!

Stewart, glad it turned out okay
