UPDATE EMAIL ADDRESS
To help remove the tonneau cover (boot) and avoid stressing the snaps I have made a fork shaped wedge tool from UHMW (nylon). You simply push it between the cover and the car body while lifting the cover. As it is nylon it does not mark the body nor tear the cover.
I can make this tool for the cost of material and shipping. If you are interested you can respond to this posting and we can link up via e-mail.

Geoff. I've been using just a little vaseline on the snaps, which I would rather not, so put me down for one, please.

Quote tonneau removal tool

Material cost is $9.00
Shipping cost probably about $10.00-$12.00 for North America
I figure $20.00 should cover the cost for TBird members
If you send me your e-mail address we can finalize where to ship etc.

Geoff

Won't it fit in a flat rate shipping container?

Geoff: Sent you the info you requested on PM😛

Ski: It works great😎

I took one of my grandson's black crayons, works great. I guess there always is a good reason to buy a tool. Tape a battery to it and you'll have a power tool.

A tool like that - battery or not - is a great conversation item too. Like, 'what's that?' and then discussion. Besides my son's a mechanic and I know he won't have one in his tool box. Make him green with envy.

Tonneau cover tool

Geoff,

If you still have this tool available I would be interested.

Ski

Hi Ski,

I can make one for you for $20.00(includes shipping in North America.
If you send me your email address I will send some pictures. George has one and he thinks its great. I have been using mine for two years on an OEM tonneau cover which cost me $850.00. No damage and no worries! Tool is small enough to keep in your console, ash tray cup or glove box.

Tonneau cover tool

I am still making this tool for those Tbird Club members who don't want the mess of vaseline or crayons. Keep in mind the cost of a replacement cover if you pull out a snap! I tried vaseline before making this tool, ended up with sand and dirt messing up the snaps. Never tried crayons though
If you are interested email me at grfax@******* for a picture.

This sounds like something you could sell on Ebay. I've been paranoid about chipping the paint on my car, so I've always been gentle with this operation. Actually, this is why I park at the far end of the parking lot, so I don't get any of those **** door dings. At least this gives me a bit of bonus exercise! As a consumer, I shouldn't say this, but I think you're selling your tool a bit too cheap - you should raise your price a tad.

Diego:
Thanks for posting the Thunderbird grill screen. The supplimental lights have an interesting look.
Then I clicked on "Ford & chrome parts" and always find it amazing how many distributors have the same pictures of my car in their ads.😎
You see, I did the original photo shoot at QAA, in MA, with my black bird back in 2003. And, since they are the manufacturer, those pics went to all of their distributors. I think I lost track of how many different distibutor websites have used those pics.🙂

Tonneau cover tool

Hi DeigoThundy,

I like making this tool for the Tbird Club members for basically cost of material and shipping. I have shown it to people with tonneau covers on pickups and boats and they have expressed an interest. I may go into limited production once I establish a reasonable labour cost and sell price. It is designed to work with a 3/8" diameter snap but could be redesigned for 1/2"diameter snaps.
I will still cut a deal for Tbird Club members though.

Thanks for the advise
Geoff (02 inspiration yellow bird)

Works Great

Geoff,

The tool works great, just as advertised. I have a boot and also a hard tonneau. I hesitate to use the toneeau for long trips though just because it takes up all the trunk space.

BTW, I put the Snap On sticker on the tool but haven't shown it to my son yet - I should have redone the logo to 'Snap Off' 🙂.

OK Geoff,

If George likes it, it must be good. Do you take PayPal?

I do like it, but one precaution......last week I just slipped it under without looking and it wasn't in between the snaps 😡 and I pulled that snap out (ouch) So just be sure it's positioned correctly🙂
