I lost the steering wheel sound controls on my '05 Bird last month and posted the problem. Got responses that told me to check the 'Clockspring mechanism that feeds power to the controls'.

Took it to the dealer along with a copy of the posting. Service manager called Ford and they told him to replace the switches. We did that (warranty), but it didn't fix the problem. Next item on the Ford list was to replace the Clockspring. (I was nice to the service folks and didn't say "I told you so").

Clockspring was replaced last week and today I have no steering wheel sound controls once more. Actually, it is sometimes on sometimes off.

Dealer now says they need to replace the entire sound system. This seems very severe to me. Can anyone shed light on this problem?

Rick;
If they are having "clockspring" issues maybe the one they replaced is bad.
If it's under warranty, let them do whatever to fix it.

By the way, this "clockspring was mentioned in another post but I don't know how he made out. You may want to contact him. Here's the thread posted by "bfuqua":
