I have started looking into an 02-05 Thunderbird. I would use it for road trips and have wondered how comfortable it is for a long haul? Also, along the same lines, my wife and I trade-off driving and when in the passenger seat I like to recline the seat to a good nap position--can I do that in a thunderbird?

Thanks for any forthcoming advice.

Evan

Evan,
I believe there are two factors to the comfort. Height and weight. Very big guys complain about the space.
Prior to my 2002, I had a 1956 and the space is the same. I am 6'4" and 220 and I fit rather well. However I need the seat all the way back, then forward about an inch so I can recline the drivers seat.
I do know a guy out in Washington State that uses his as a daily driver. He is tall and slender and has many miles on the car and has never complained, he loves the car as a year round driver. Many trips to CA and back. So road trips should not be an issue.

As far as "nap positions" go, I don't think so. Very little recline with that package shelf in the back.

George;

Thank you for the information. I am a slim 6' so it sounds as though I would fit the bird.

Does the package shelf cover the storage space for the soft top? If so, can the soft top be removed for more recline space?

As you can probably tell, I know very little about the 02-05 thunderbirds, except that they are just simply beautiful.

Evan:
At a slim 6' you'll do okay.

The package shelf I believe covers the storage space for the soft top? The soft top cannot be removed. However, when it is up the well could be used for small soft carry-on luggage.

You will never gain more recline space, to the best of my knowledge.

Another thought, if you removed the package shelf, I do not know if that seat will recline enough to utilize that space. Plus it may look ugly.

George;

Thank you for addressing my concerns. I suspect that you are right, space will not be a problem for me.

My brother-in-law tells me that space may not be a problem, but that the lowness of the car may be daunting to someone used to driving a 53 ford truck, an Explorer, and a Subaru.

I still haven't checked out a Thunderbird in part because it doesn't seem fair to a seller if I am not really ready to buy--which I'm not since the man who is interested in the 53 has yet to come up with any money. Lots of interest but zero payment.

What shape is the '53 Ford in and what State is it in? Dollars?😕😕
