Hello all, I just purchased a new 2004 Merlot. The dealer said to wait 3000 miles for the first oil change. Does Ford use a special break-in oil? I am hesitant to leave the oil in that long since it will be several months and the car has already sat on the dealer lot for some time. Is ther any harm in doing an oil change right away?

Welcome Ron 😉 enjoy your ride 😎 I changed mine after the first 1000 miles and every 3000 since. You could wait longer if you choose. I guess it's an individual choice, but I wouldn't do less than the manual. 😱

I was told there is a special mixture of oil from the factory to break in the engine and you should be patient before changing it out on ANY make or model of car. Any opinions on this?

When I visited assembly plant several years ago. That question was asked. Fords answer was, "We don't use anything special for break in oil". Just the normal recomended stuff.
