I'm guessing it's a rebuilt pump? Seems like most of them quiet down after a few miles of use. Be sure you turned lock-to-lock with the front of the car elevated to burp as much air out as possible. If it continues to whine after a few hundred miles, it is probably just the pump. Would need to try another one to verify. Rebuilt stuff seems to be hit or miss these days. Good luck.

I had the exact same problem on my 1966 Mustang - it was the pump. A rebuilt one solved the problem.

Same here man, pump. Have had this happen with several cars. I even rebuilt one myself once and it whined LMAO. Check your belt tension, also you might want to flush the entire system REALLY well.

Try the Lucas steering pump seal reconditioner product. Cheap and easy to see if that will make the difference.

This is very good!! I have used it and can attest to it. I would also say use Honda fluid...I know that is sacrilege, but my uncle runs it in everything - apparently Honda fluids are tops. He builds kit cars, had a business for a while build gt-40s. Been around cars for 45 years and he runs Honda is almost all his stuff lol. He has a Pantera that is full of honda fluids 🙂 🙂 Of course he lives 300 miles away and is not helpful, or I would have tapped that resource.

Old lines can have weird crusty stuff in them, also if your wipers are tied in, the system is working double hard. I would consider a solid flush until it is clear/clean as possible, check the belt tension (also make sure it is lining upright and not putting stress on the pump at a weird angle. I would try the Lucas stuff though.
