There IS a difference in oil filters. Especially with cars that are not driven daily, you want to have good filtration.

One thing most don't realize- the weak link in the whole system is the oil filter. Most filters bypass (clog) at about 1500 miles. The oil goes around the filter, staying full of grit and grime that will shorten the life of your engine. High quality filters use finer mesh filtration material, and it is usually made of metal or glass fibers. The best is synthetic media.

Examples of the best filters:

(made by Champion Labs)
STP, Motorcraft, Puralator Premium Plus, Mobil 1 (synthetic filter media), Delco UltraGard Gold, Bosch, Deutsch.

Poor quality: Fram Extra Gard, Quaker State, Pennzoil.

I use Motorcraft in all my Ford cars.
