I'm looking to convert the ignition system to MSD. I'm currently looking at replacing the spark plug wires and all ignition related wiring, ignition coil, and then an MSD distributor and control box. I'm trying to determine which distributor to go with and have narrowed it down to 2. One has a steel gear (MSD Pro-Billet Street 84771), the other has an iron gear (MSD Pro-Billet Street 8477).

With a stock cam and stock lifters, what would be the better choice?

If I understand correctly, iron is the safer/better option with a stock setup but any clarity on this would be appreciated.

I'm also looking for a new ignition coil and trying to decide on an MSD ignition control box. Any input would be appreciated!

Yes, you are correct. Cast gear with stock camshaft is the correct combination
