As I am sure many of you are running into the same uninformed people that I do i am trying to find some information I know I read or heard. Many people think the T-Bird has already been discontinued. What i am looking for is the information that told about the 4 year, 25000 per year unit production run. I am getting tired of hearing people say Ford is stopping production because the car is not selling, when the real reason is they are stopping because that was the original plan!

Data

The plan was always at least 4 years production or 100,000 cars. Of course if this car is extended, past 2005, it makes sence that Ford gets more out of their tooling. Here are some quotes from articles:

5-24-00 - USA Today, "Ford plans to sell 30,000 Thunderbirds a year".
1-9-01 - USA Today Money, "Ford expects to sell 25,000 Thunderbirds which is not many."
5-28-2001 - AutoWeek Magazine, "Ford plans to build only 25,000 Thunderbirds a year, making it something of a boutique car by Big Three standards."
August 2001 - Road & Track, "Ford plans to build 25,000 at it's Wixom plant"
11-26-01 - Yahoo news, Thunderbird wins car of the year, it was a huge hit on the auto show circuit and among automotive trade puyblication, bolstering Ford' decision to build a production version in low volumes - about 25,000 - to help maintain the car's cache.
4-23-02 - Road & Track magazine, "Ford plans to build 25,000 Thunderbirds per year at the Wixoms assembly plant.
