The enjoyment I get from my 55 Bird becomes less at times when the driving compartment starts to heat up. In traffic or while in dropping from higher speeds to lower it becomes quite apparent.
I have been told there are materials that can be put beneath the carpeting to insulate the driving compartment from heat generated by the muffler system which is beneath and in the vicinity of the passenger compartment . Readers may correctly perceive I have limited knowledge of all this and the car . At the same time , I sure enjoy the Bird.Input will beappreciated
Thanks

Casco has shields you place over your mufflers to disapates some of the heat...I installed them on my 55 and the cut down on some of the heat. Also Lizard skin makes a product you spray on the floor that insulates. I have not used it but it seems like it has good reviews.

I pulled the seat and carpeting, installed a 6 inch foiled back rolled rubberized insulation fron Lowes, then made up double sided batten insulation and this made major diferance. Now I have a 57 with side vents and on very hot days it remains tolerable. Worth noting I am adding AC. We are planning trips that will take us into the desert and high temps.

When adding A/C don't forget to install a condenser fan and upgrade the water pump with Casco's high flow water pump. Tie a relay inline to turn the condenser fan on when the A/c clutch engages. Works perfectly.

Just a quick comment, It's not your imagination that your 55 gets warm around the legs-feet. They found that out in 1955. The feedback Ford got initially over their new sports car showed three complaints -- hot floor, no space in the trunk, and the hard top made some people feel claustrophobic. That's why for 1956, the car got side vents, a continental spare, and a top with portholes (optional, but most all the cars had it).
