I go to cruises fairly often. I never see 71 four doors and many people never ever saw a 71. Any idea how many are still running and on the road? Thanks in advance.

It's impossible to know how many of any of the glamour birds are still on the road. Not unless you got some amazing mind power that can see every one that isn't sitting in a yard or is already a metal ingot. Though I will say the 70 and 71 years were not the most popular (if you could even use that word for our era birds) due in part to the odd looking beak front end. Wasn't a real eye catcher. Also most car enthusiasts tend to want a two door hot rod or muscle car over a four door passenger car.

Very nice car. I thought The 68 was the only 4 door bird. When did they stop making 4 doors?

4 Door Thunderbirds were manufactured for the 1967 through the 1971 model years. 1970 and 71 cars, such as mine, featured the "beak" nose as a main styling distinction from the 1967-1969 model years.

The Bunkie beak(Bunkie Knudsen) does take some getting used to. You can definitely see the Pontiac influence on the nose as it was his idea. The thing that always struck me odd was Ford had done such a good job with intro of a design and refine it for 3 years then a whole new style(until the 90s). Always liked the 67-69 style then the 70-71 sort of was a tag on to those. Here’s a pick of my 70 with the big ol beak, but it has a vinyl top1B984B5A-63BE-4727-83CC-609203AFD58E.jpeg C96F9436-50FF-4A4F-9F2B-36C6F77FA0E7.jpeg 43836462-5528-4E63-90A3-FD0DAD540478.jpeg

Yeah that’s a beautiful car. I like the nose on that. It’s definitely Pontiac is in it.

An aquired taste that’s for sure. I just never really liked that big goofy looking beak. I will say that the swept back style does look really good on those cars. Shame the earlier models never had that sporty stance. It’s really good looking. I would if I had one of those stick the front end off a 67-69 tbird on it. It would look very sexy indeed.

I wonder if that would work. The fenders look different too so I’d be one heck of a modification Or just take the grill out all together and cut that center piece out.

Beak nose looks a lot like the 1969-70 Pontiac Grand Prix. Probably trying to copy each other
