FS 2003 White with black interior 114k miles

My wife's 2003 thunderbird went to the shop for a minor leak in overflow container. When we got it back it was shifting hard in low gears. There were no issues prior to going to shop.
Shop claims no responsibility. It may or may not need a transmission. I have no idea it just seems really odd that it was returned with trans issue. Mechanic said battery had died and this may be the problem.
He recommended driving it to reset the computer. We drove it and no improvement. Car has 114k miles and runs good. 6,000 obo
